Flu Vaccine

If you have booked an appointment for your flu vaccine and you have recently received a COVID-19 vaccine, your flu vaccination can still be given. Flu vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines can be administered at any time interval, although separating the vaccines by a day or two will avoid confusion over any side effects.

Blood Tests

There is a national shortage of the blood bottles, which is expected to last until at least 17th September 2021. This is affecting every healthcare service provider.

We have therefore been told by the NHS to postpone all non-urgent blood tests.

We will:

  •  Review all of the required blood tests to determine those that can safely be delayed
  •  Advise you if we feel that you urgently require having blood taken to assist your treatment
  •  Add your name to a waiting list to rearrange your blood test
  •  Advise you when the situation changes

We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience. This is something that is completely out of our control. 

You do not need to contact the surgery. If you have a non-urgent blood test booked and we need to cancel it a member of the team will contact you.

 

Annual Flu Vaccinations

We are now taking bookings for annual Flu Vaccinations for patients aged 65 years and over.

  • Saturday 25th September

  • Saturday 2nd October

  • Saturday 9th October

WARNING! -  NHS App - Covid Pass

We have been made aware that there are several scam emails circulating in the UK asking for payment or bank details to obtain the NHS App Covid Pass   This is a SCAM - the NHS will never ask you for your bank details.

 

COVID-19 Protections are still in place at Ide Lane Surgery

In line with current Government guidance patients are required to continue to wear a face covering in all healthcare settings.  Face coverings primarily protect others, so doing so, unless exempt - is key to preventing the spread of infection.

  • Please wear a face covering
  • Continue to respect (2m) social distancing
  • Wash/ sanitise your hands regularly
  • Test and isolate if you have any symptoms -  if you have symptoms you must get a PCR test as soon as possible and before visiting the surgery, Rapid Flow Tests should not be used to confirm infection. It is vital that you and anyone in your household isolate until you receive your test result, and for 10 days thereafter if the result is positive.

The Friends of Ide Lane Surgery are setting up a Carers group in your local community. 

The first group "Caring for You"  will meet at  Alphington Village Hall on Monday 13th September  - 2.00pm - 3.00pm  

(every 2nd Monday in the month thereafter)  All ages welcome.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination status for travelling abroad

You can get your COVID-19 vaccination status if all the following apply:

  • you've had 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine
  • you were vaccinated at a GP surgery, vaccination centre or hospital in England
  • you're aged 16 or older

COVID-19 Vaccinations

NHS COVID-19 vaccination programme update

We will not be providing a vaccination service for people aged 18 to 49 when they become eligible. If you are in this cohort, you will be able to get your vaccination at other local vaccination services including hospital hubs, community pharmacies and larger vaccination centres. We ask our patients to wait until they are contacted by the National Booking Service so they can book an appointment at a site closest to them.

Women’s Health Clinic

We are now offering a regular Women’s Health Clinic.

Services offered include:

  • Fitting, removal and replacement of coil - Copper IUD and Mirena/IUS
  • Fitting, removal and renewal of contraceptive implant – Nexplanon
  • Fitting of ring pessaries

The doctor is also happy to discuss any issues around the menopause, contraception and anything else relating to women's health eg fertility, PCOS etc

Find my NHS number

A new service is now live to help find people find their NHS number. This service is for anyone living in England who has forgotten or does not know their NHS number. This service can also be used on behalf of someone else where the name, date of birth and registered home postcode is known. You can opt for the number to be sent to you by text, email or letter.

Flu Clinics

Careful precautions will be in place to ensure safe social distancing and allow time for infection control measures.  

We aim to get each patient through our system in less than 5 minutes. Please read all the instructions below carefully before booking an appointment.

  • Car Parking at the surgery is limited to disabled persons only - please attend on foot where possible or park nearby and walk.
  • You must wear a face covering unless you are exempt from doing so. (Please be aware that a small number of patients will be unable to wear face masks. Please respect their right to privacy regarding their reasoning for this)
  • Hand sanitiser available at the entrance.   
  • To help us run efficiently please remember to use your own toilet at home before attending.   We cannot guarantee that the toilet will be cleaned between patients
  • You must not enter the building if you are unwell, please return home and re-book your appointment for another time.
  • We will not be able to deal with any general queries or medical problems during flu clinics.

Once in the building follow the signs and guidance from our reception staff. While in our waiting room space you will be asked to undress enough to completely expose your upper arm on one side ready to receive the vaccine. Please wear clothes that make it easy to do this. For example, wear a short-sleeved top underneath your outer clothing. You will move in a clockwise direction through the building, receive your vaccine, and then continue clockwise to leave through the automated doors, which are usually the main entrance.

Once ready with your arm, the receptionist will guide you through to numbered doors where you will be vaccinated standing in front of the doorway, then leave.  Please try not to touch anything on the way. We ask that you attend alone but if you do need help, there will be a member of staff to assist you.

If you think you will be unable to follow the system described above, for example if you are unable to remain standing for 5 - 10 minutes, or if you mobilise extremely slowly, then please contact the surgery to discuss this.

We hold a vision for the type of service we try to offer, based on values we believe to be important. We aim for a blend of traditional, personal and family practice, using the most up to date equipment and proven treatments. To do this we work from purpose built premises, easily accessible to all, designed to be light and friendly. We believe it is important that every person has a named, usual doctor.

We encourage you to see your own doctor whenever possible, to help build relationships. Planned appointments are booked at 15 minute intervals to allow time to deal with problems more fully. We know that continuity of care is important to many patients, especially the elderly and those with complicated or multiple problems. We also think it makes sense, and value it in this practice.

We realise, too, that some problems are urgent and need dealing with on the day. So we run an urgent appointments session in the mornings, shared amongst all the doctors working that day, to deal safely and promptly with patients who are acutely ill.

Doctors, nurses and office staff meet together often to help keep the practice running smoothly. We value our work in training young general practitioners; and in teaching medical students by involving them in patient consultations.

On-line Appointments and Prescriptions and viewing your Medical Record

You can now book your appointment, order your repeat prescription and view your medical record online using our online patient service. Available 24 hours a day, it's especially useful when the practice is closed or telephone lines are busy.

In order to use online repeat prescription requests you will require a username and password. This can be requested by telephoning your doctor's secretary on 01392 439868.

Appointments for vaccinations, injections, dressings, blood tests and long term condition reviews are with the practice nurses. Please contact the surgery by telephone and we will make sure you see the appropriate clinician for your needs.
